In-Person Workshop on Wednesday 29th June 2022
Spend a creative and fun day with me, in my new studio space in Woodbridge, Suffolk, making small textile artworks from dyed and painted vintage fabrics. I will show you how I consider composition and use colour to create interest and depth. Adding additional colour with paint, your own stitched line drawing and finally adding stitch for texture and interest.
Choosing from hand dyed repurposed fabrics in my “stash” you will assemble the background of your work. I will show you how to add additional colour with paint or dye. Working from a simple sketch (you can trace one of mine if you aren’t confident to draw your own) you will transfer your design to the fabric ready for stitch. Using simple stitches to “draw” the sketch and to add texture with embroidery made in a playful and intuitive way. I will demonstrate the stitches that I use regularly and how I make my thread choices.
You will end the day with your own original and unique landscapes to take home and finish stitching at your leisure. You will have information about how to finish and mount your work ready for framing.
All materials and equipment will be provided but you may prefer to bring your own basic sewing kit with scissors, pins, needles and thimble. As you may be using dye or paint, please bring an apron and rubber or latex gloves to protect your clothes and hands from staining.
A knowledge of basic hand sewing technique is needed for this workshop. ( running stitch, tacking/basting and backstitch)
Tea and coffee will be provided along with a simple vegetarian lunch.
This is a small workshop with a maximum of 4 attendees.
Workshop runs from 9.45 to 4.30
